Online Dictionary on Digitalization

The online Dictionary on Digitalization aims to clarify and organize key concepts related to the digital transformation of politics, governance, democracy and society. It serves as a shared reference for researchers, students, and practitioners.

The selection of terms combined a top-down approach, identifying core concepts, with a bottom-up process, gathering feedback from members of the network. Each entry then underwent an internal peer review to ensure coherence and accuracy.

The dictionary’s goal is to promote conceptual clarity and foster dialogue across disciplines and perspectives on digitalization. Please ensure you cite this dictionary entry appropriately when using or referencing its content.

If you would like to suggest new terms, propose updates, or provide feedback, please contact the WG1 leader, Marco Lisi marcolisi@fcsh.unl.pt , or the Science Communication Coordinator, Giulia Sandri giulia.sandri@ulb.be

AI-enabled Analytics - Erkan Saka (Istanbul Bilgi University)
AI-enabled analytics refers to the use of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques — such as machine learning, natural language processing, and computer vision — to analyze large and complex datasets. These systems go beyond traditional data analysis by identifying patterns, generating predictions, and offering insights without explicit human programming.
Digital party – Davide Vittori (University of Valencia)
A digital party is a political party whose organizational infrastructure and routine activities are predominantly based on digital affordances, such as online platforms. Digital parties rely on these tools to recruit and mobilize members, raise funds, deliberate and make decisions — over the selection of candidates, leadership or party programmes —, organize meetings or offline events and elaborate parties’ ideology.
